Expect to pay: £15-20 (approx) a head for two courses with drinks and £20-25 (approx) a head for three courses with drinks

A group of us were getting together, and as we had one vegetarian and one vegan to cater for, the choice of venue was limited. I had never been to Take 5 before so really didn’t know what to expect.

It is more of a pub/café feel than a restaurant. Consequently, it was quite noisy and smoky and the service was a bit slow as the waiter was also serving behind the bar. The menu was simple and had a mixture of vegetarian, vegan and meat dishes that were all reasonably priced.

I opted for the chilli but as there was no meat version left I had to go for the vegetarian. It was nice but it was very chunky - the pieces of vegetables were really big, which personally I don’t really like, but it wasn’t the end of the world. Something that does bug me though is when a restaurant serves salad unnecessarily with EVERYTHING! My chilli came with rice, which had a lovely nutty flavour, but then there was these big bits of lettuce and tomato stuck on the top – WHY?

The puddings were lovely and obviously all handmade. I ordered banoffee pie, which was nice but a bit too creamy even for me.

As usual when you’re out with a group nobody had the right money but thought we could sort it out when we got the change – this never happened. The waiter didn’t bring our change back and just assumed all the extra money (which was over £11) was his tip. I thought this was a bit cheeky - he was good but not that good!

Overall, it was a good evening but I think this was more to do with the great company rather than the average food. Lovely homemade soups, jacket potatoes and sandwiches makes this an ideal place for lunch but I don’t think I’ll be in a hurry to return for an evening meal.
